28 - CRAIG ROBINSON

Craig's a farmer from Tapanui who's Radioactive race boat has made regular appearances since he started racing in 2013. Two highlights were winning outright, the 2016 Stuart Blanchard Memorial Race on the Waimakariri and claiming 3rd CX in the 2017 Worlds.

His son Liam stepped into the navigator seat last season.​​​​​​

44 - ANDREW SCOTT

After successfully competing boat 153 in FX class, claiming 2nd in FX during the 2020 NZ Marathon Andrew Scott figured he'd take the next step.

His boat sold quicker than expected so he snapped up Cleve Kookshorn's ready to go CX, so Andrew and Dave took to the water for the first time in boat 99 during the 2021 Waitaki River Race.

166 - RILEY SMITH

One of several racers from Ashburton, Riley has been racing for six years after following in his father Murray's footsteps  who raced in the late 80s to early 90s. He started in FX after catching the bug from navigating for Steve Rapsey. Riley moved up to CX class last in 2021.

Now he has Zane Rich by his side pointing the way while his twin Scott is team manager and spanners man. Most rewarding achievement so far is finishing his first ever race in 12th overall - the 2017 World Championships held here in New Zealand​​​​​​​

185 - RICHIE FOSTER

Richie's from Leeston and started racing as a navigator in 2017 before jumping behind the wheel of his own race boat in  2020. He's claimed a 3rd outright in the Worlds as a navigator and 2nd CX and 2nd Piston class in the 2020 NZ Marathon.

305 - STEVE RAPSEY

This new dad is another of the Ashburton racing brigade who's enthusiastically taken to river racing. His first event was the Worlds in 2017 and a highlight was snaring the 2020 CX 1 title.

HIs crew comprises Ando, Adam Clememt, Mark Shearer, Chopper, Dan Bryce and Bevo!

The other highlight is the banter between CX crews about who's doing what to their engine!

525 - AIDAN FLETT

Ashburton's Aidan Fleet has always wanted to race jet boats but when he sold farm there was nothing stopping him. Now three years on the water including a roll in 2020 on the Rakaia he's back with a new KeelowCraft, new stripes and dialling the boat, himself and crew Craig Heney back in.

Despite his short career, Aidan's best achievement is 3rd in CX class on the Waimak in 2020.

Rob runs a Southland engineering business and caught the racing bug after enjoying his family jet boating in 2018. He loves racing on rivers he wouldn't normally boat and the camaraderie of the racing fraternity keeps him coming back.

666 (NZ3) - DAVE ROBINSON

Dave Robinson started with three years navigating but jumped behind the wheel a year ago with navigator Cameron Court. He lives in Greymouth but always makes the trip over the hill to race, and all of his successes have been achieved in Canterbury!

In the short time he has been racing, he did exceptionally well in the 2020 Norm Bagrie race coming  2nd in CX Class, 3rd overall, and 3rd on handicap and the last two years has finished both marathons as NZ3.

Darfield contractor Wayne aka 'Brickie' is know as the entertainer in the field. His wicked sense of humour and ability to turn even the worst incident into a memorable moment makes him a valuable competitor!

He started navigating 8 years ago navigating for Chris Campbell and stepped into the drivers seat three years later with Mark Moore handling the signals.

His best achievement is 3rd in CX in the 2016 NZ Marathon.

841 - GRANT PERRY

Grant farms in the Rakaia district but usually finds time to get amongst the action out on the water, especially his home river - the Rakaia. 

His best achievement to date is 2nd in the 2020 Marathon - second in A class. His five year career has seen him compete in both A class and CX class in boat 841, including the 2019 World Championships in Canada.

Simon Hampton and Graham Patterson share the navigators seat but Grant's family is also involved on race weekends.

Grant is grateful to all organisers for taking the time to put on such great events.
